Two courses based on the national social worker qualifications

The Department of Social Welfare offers two courses; Social Welfare Course at the end of which students take the examination for a certified social worker and Nursing Welfare Course at the end of which students take the examination for a certified health care worker, based on the national social worker qualification. By choosing the course according to the occupation in which the students would like to work and the qualifications necessary, support can be provided to the students to gain a high level of expertise. We seek to train the human resources who can contribute to the local community.

Various qualifications can be obtained that cater to the needs of the society.

One of the merits of studying welfare at the university is being able to obtain multiple certificates during the 4 year university period, while gaining a wide-range of knowledge in the fields such as children, disabilities, aging, medicine, mental health, and regional community. Students can challenge themselves to acquire the qualifications required not only to be a social worker, but also to be a psychiatric social worker and a certified health care worker which require the students to take a national examination. Moreover, certification for a beginner level sports instructor for the disabled and welfare recreation worker, etc. can be obtained. This will open many avenues for them to work as a social worker in the future. Furthermore, students who are eager to study can continue on to the graduate school and pursue further research.

Practical study seminars conducted in small groups from the 1st year

Seminars are conducted in small groups to enable the students to study based on practical experience. During the 1st year, introductory seminars are conducted for the students to acquire the study skills which build the foundation for the next four years they spend at the university. Students study basics in welfare based on practical experience. From the 2nd year, students are assisted to study the basic interviewing and consultation techniques. From the 3rd and 4th year, students can study and get an exposure to the community welfare issues and enhance their understanding by attending practical seminars that utilize the expertise of the teachers.
