2021年7月3日に行ったOnline交流のゲストは、20年間のオーストリア、ウイーン居住の後、オーストラリア、シドニーへ移住、日?豪の看護資格をお持ちの在宅ケアコーディネーターです。また、本学実施のシドニー研修の際には現地で手厚いサポートをいただいています。本学からは医療情報、看護、薬、球探足球比分から11名の参加がありました。今回のテーマは、「オーストラリアならではの医療と、海外で暮らし仕事をするという事」を日本人の視点でお話しいただき、コロナ禍でのそれぞれの国の対策などを比較しながらフリーディスカッションを行いました。国土が日本の20倍というオーストラリアでは、ロイヤルフライングドクターサービスといってドクターヘリならぬ小型飛行機での医療サービスがあり、内陸や、離島などに飛んで患者輸送や巡回診療を行っているそうです。ステーションは50か所以上あり、緊急時など、場合によっては道路や砂漠での離発着もあるとのこと、そのスケールの大きさに驚かされます。また、毒を持った蛇や、蜘蛛、クラゲなどが多い自然環境から、医療を学ぶ大学で、本物の蛇を使って、その対処方法や、かまれた場合の救急処理を行う授業があるそうです。その他、海外で働くことでの良いことや、ストレスなど、参加学生からは興味深い質問がたくさんありましたが、ゲストからの「言語スキルは高いほど良いが、個人の人柄（真面目さや人懐こさ）が有利なこともある」というコミュニケーション力に触れた言葉は印象的でした。コロナ禍の対策については、ワクチン接種の順番や、人流を止める対策と経済活動の両立等、国による事情やタイミングについて大変活発にディスカッションが行われ、また、参加者皆が知らないことを知る楽しさを大いに味わった時間でもありました。この日のために準備してくださったゲストに心より感謝申し上げます。渡航が叶うようになって、シドニーの研修が再開した際には、直接お会いできることを心待ちにしております。

Our guest for the online exchange on July 3, 2021 was a home care coordinator who moved to Sydney, Australia after living in Vienna, Austria for 20 years. She has nursing qualifications in both Japan and Australia and also is a supporter for University’s oversea program in Sydney. 11 students from the departments of Healthcare Informatics, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Applied Biological Sciences participated in the activity. The presentation was about “Uniqueness of Australia’s medical care and living and working overseas” from a Japanese perspective and was followed by a free discussion comparing the measures taken in each country to deal with COVID-19. In Australia, which has an area 20 times larger than Japan, used the Royal Flying Doctor Services, which flies small airplanes rather than helicopters to transport patients to inland areas and remote islands. There are more than 50 stations, and in case of emergencies, they even take off and land on roads or deserts. In addition, due to the natural environment with many poisonous snakes, spiders, jellyfish, etc., there is a class at the university where nursing students learn how to deal with real snakes and emergency treatment for bites. There were many other interesting questions from the participating students regarding working abroad as a foreigner and one of impressive words from the guest were importance of communication skills: “The higher the language skills, the better you have chances, but there are times when an individual’s personality (faithful and friendliness) could be an advantage as well.” Regarding countermeasures against coronaviruses, active discussion was held on the order of vaccination, timing and circumstances in different countries such as balancing measures to stop the flow of people and economic activities.
